On August 3rd Annissa, Rezky and Me arrived in Iloilo city then Ma’am Hilda and Ma’am Rose picked Us up in the airport. Ma’am Hilda is my coordinator in West Visayas State University. We went to the Mc Donald to eat dinner and chit chat along the journey then we went to the Hometel. Actually the Hometel is our dormitory and it is located in the university area as well. We got the nice rooms, actually we got two rooms. They were room 3 and room 5. Room 3 was for our beds and room 5 was for our rest room and kitchen. We take a rest well and after that, on August 5th we got invitation from Emochella anniversary party. Emochella is the name of English Education students organization in the campus. It was their 1st anniversary. It was so fun because we played bingo game together, we danced together, they showed their ability in singing and acting and also I was given many foods and snacks. So, the point is I’m so happy and amazed because of their friendly characters.
Then on August 6th I had started to observe , after that on August 7th I became team teaching in the classes. They were grade 4th and grade 6th. For my first demo teaching with Ma’am Karla, I felt so nervous but she always made me calm down. Then after became team teaching with Ma’am Karla, I started to teach with Ma’am Angelica. She is so humble and really helpful. Beside that actually I was confused to make the lesson plan but step by step I can understand because of ma’am Hazel as my advisory teacher explained for me. I can make it together with Ma’am Karla and ma’am Angelica as my buddies. Then in the weekend I also went to the Molo Mansion, Ilamoco gallery in the Mega World, San Mariquete, Korean restaurant,Mang Inasal, several Malls ,historical churchs and Supermarket with Ma’am Daisy Rosano.
August 8th, I was still became team teaching with Ma’am Angelica and and Ma’am Danica. Ma’am Angelica was teaching in grade 4 about capitalization and punctuation and Ma’am Danica was teaching grade 6 and taught about rules in subject-verb agreement.
August 9th I still became team teaching with Ma’am Karla. It was about past form of regular and irregular verb. Then with Ma’am Quenchee was teaching in grade 6 and taught about more rules in subject-verb agreement.
August 10th, at this time I reviewed the pupils for the first quarterly exam. For grade 4 was about Homonyms, Past Forms of Regular And Irregular Verb, Puctuation, and Rewriting Paragraphs Using Symbols. Then for grade 6 about Identifying Tone and Mood of The Story, Subject Verb Agreement, Plural Form of Nouns.
August 13th – 15th, we have first quarterly examination and checking test papers with my buddies in the library.
August 17th, started to make lesson plan. For the first time It was so difficult but after my advisory teacher and my buddies taught me finally I can do that. Then tomorrow, August 20th I can start to teach individually in grade 4 about Identifying the theme of a story. It was my first teaching individually. I was so nervous because I worried that the students won’t to hear me but It ws not like my expectation. They are so fun and polite even though sometimes they are noisy. After taught grade 4, I continued to teach grade 6 about sequencing events of a story. It was also my first time to teach individually. I was so nervous but actually they are so friendly and fun even though they were noisy.
August 21st is holiday. Yeayyyy !!! so, I went to hang out with my friends and also with Karla. I went to look for the lunch and also I went to the sport complex with Karla. Then the most interesting was I went to Karla’s house. Her house is so far from the university. I was so happy because I can know her niece and her grand parents. They are so humble and kind people.
August 22nd, I continued the lesson of my previous material in grade 4 and grade 6 because at that time I dont have any enough time to finish all of the material based on the lesson plan. At that time I was so sad because I though that I was so awful, I can’t handle the time.
August 23rd, I became a partener for Ma’am Ella Mae to teach about Identifying parts of dictionary. Actually she was my new buddy. Because Ma’am Karla and Angelica started their teaching practice in other real schools. After we taught the lesson, the integrated laboratory school had earthquake drill in the afternoon.
August 27th, I went to the Guimaras island with Sir Paul. It was so fun, because I went to the beach and also I went to the reastaurant and we ate the delicious mangos, and also souvenirs shop.
August 28, I taught students in grade 4 about Parts of Book. I gave them the videos and also the game. I think they can enjoy the lesson. They were so enthusiast and I really love them.
August 29th, this is my last teaching practice in grade 4 and also grade 6. I was so sad. The students were also so sad. I still remember their face when I said it was my last time to teach them. I don’t know I just felt guiltyto leave them. They are so cute and I love them.
Then after I taughr them, you know what ? they gave me a surprise party as the farewell party. Oh my goodness ! I was so surprised and also so touched because of them. I entered the door and wow I was crying, crying because of I really so touched. They gave me many cakes and peformances from grade 4 and grade 6 and I know this idea was from my advisory teacher, Ma’am Hazel Falcis. She is so kind, she always helped me in my difficluties in teaching process and now she made the surprise party for me and persuade all of the student teacher and of course coordinate the students and their parents. I’m so happy, Thank God ! you gave me many kind people in Iloilo city Philippines.
August 30, I don’t have any schedule again. I was free and I was packing my stuffs and ready to come back to Indonesia. Even though I was crying. By the way, now I’m still chit chat sometimes with my students. I really miss them.

SEA TEACHER PROJECT
General
Information and Academic Administration
1.1. School Profile
West visayas state university
(WVSU) was founded on june 16th 1902 as part of the early philippine normal
school system under the american occupation.
Known as the Iloilo normal institute and later the Iloilo
Normal school, WVSU was one of the five tributary schools created to address
the need to train Filipino teachers under the tutelage of the Thomasites in
1916, it was a secondary school and Iloilo high school complete with elemantary
and training departments. In 1924, with the completion of its main building,
now to be Quezon Hall and laboratory school building. In 1954, the bachelor of
science in education major in elementary was offered, pioneering
teacher-training institution in western visayas. It was named a center of
excellence (1994) by the late sen. Blas P. Ople and center of excellence for
teacher education (1995) by the commission on higher education (CHED).
The INS became the West Visayas
State College by virtue of R.A. 4189 in 1965, and commenced the offering of the
Bachelor of Science in Education for Elementary and Secondary teaching.
Bachelor of Arts; and Master’s in Education. It was in the same year when the
Graduate School and the School of Arts and Sciences were in place. The
Secondary Laboratory School was opened in 1969. In September 1972, RA 6596
authorized the offering of University level courses in education, arts and
sciences. The period from 1974, its Golden Jubilee year to the early 1980s was
one of marked growth, witnessing the establishment of the School of Medicine (1
975), School of’ Agriculture (1976), and School of Nursing (1977). The doctoral
program of the Graduate School was likewise, introduced in 1977. The B.S.
Biological Science, AS Mass Communications, and B. S. Forestry programs took
off in 1981. On January 27, 1986, PD. 2019 converted the College into the West
Visayas State University, integrating the Iloilo National College of
Agriculture (INCA) into its system. In 1987, the University acquired the Don
Benito V. Lopez Memorial Hospital, which became the WVSU Hospital, a 150-bed
tertiary, teaching and training hospital. The University further established in
1993, the Physical Education, Sports, Culture and Recreation Center which later
became the degree-granting PESCAR Institute and later College of PESCAR in
2000. Strict observance of the trilogy of functions became evident in the
University as early as 1986, when the Office of Research and Non-Formal
Education was established followed by the Office of Extension in 1988. In 1993,
the Department of Mass Communications became the degree granting Institute of
Mass Communications, which was later converted into a College in 2000. The
Diamond Jubilee in 1999 was ushered in by the offering of more academic programs:
the Bachelor in Cooperatives Management (1997) and the Bachelor of Science in
Information Management and Bachelor of Science in In formation Technology
(1998). In 2000, the Higher Education Modernization Act (1997) integrated into
the University four CHED supervised schools in Calinog, Janiuay, Lambunao, and
Pototan. In 2001, the WVSU Board of Regents and the Department of Health (DOH)
approved the conversion of the hospital to a 300-bed WVSU Medical Center that
it is today. Likewise, in 2001, the Bachelor in Statistics and Research program
was introduced. The University Distance Education program through the Diploma
in Teaching (DlT) course began in Summer 2003. By the first semester of 2003
four new courses were commenced: Bachelor/n Hotel and Restaurant Management,
Bachelor in Broadcasting, Bachelor in Journalism, and Bachelor of Science in
Development Communication. In 2004, the University instituted its
Verticalization Scheme in academic programs through the operations of the
graduate schools in the College of Education and the College of Arts &
Sciences.

Then, the name of the elemenetary
school that I observed is WVSU Integrated Laboratory School. It is located in
Magsaysay Village, La Paz, Iloilo City, Iloilo, Philippines. This school is
located inside the WVSU Campus.
1.2. Academic Support System
WVSU Integrated Laboratory School has some rooms such as:
Office of the principal, classroom from Nursery/Kinder, elementary school, and
high school, science lab room, comfort room, and also stock room. I really like
this school because this place is where i can find the kind people including
the teachers, staff and of course the students in this school. The students started
their activities in the school at 07.00 am and they finish their study at 04.00
pm, except kindergarten which has several hours only.
This university has many support
systems enough, for example :
1.
Medical center
The West Visayas
State University Medical Center is a 300 bed tertiary teaching, training
hospital that serves as a functional laboratory for the College of Medicine,
Nursing, and Health Sciences Institute of the West Visayas State University.
The WVSU is a university existing within its own charter provided for in P.D.
1437 and P.D. 2019 and now R.A. 8292 otherwise known as Higher Education
Modernization Act of 1997. The WVSU Medical Center, being a unit of WVSU, is
not under the Department of Health; however its policies and procedures are
patterned after DOH and Philippine General Hospital (PGH) which is also
tertiary and, teaching and training hospital of a state university, the
University of the Philippines.
2.
Center for international linkages and public
information
As an arm of the
President’s Office, the Center is manned by the director who directly
supervises the International Linkages, Public Information, and Data Source divisions.
The Center serves as a hub for international linkages and information needs of
the university as it relates to high profile guests, media, government
agencies, and the general public. Aimed
at building a good reputation for the university, it performs to manage or
coordinate related events, provide hospitality services, and deliver ease of
data access in coordination with the President’s Office, Vice Presidents’
Office, the Board Secretary’s Office, Management Information System,
Registrar’s Office, Finance Division, Student Affairs, Colleges, and other
units.
3.
Center for foreign language
The Center
offers several language courses, non- degree language programs, seminars, and
trainings. It aims to promote language and culture. It collaborates with the
Goethe Institut, Japan Foundation, Spanish Embassy, Italian Embassy, Alliance
Francaise, Korean Cultural Center and other Korean Universities and Chinese
Embassy in Cebu. Since its opening in 2000, the Center has been offering
year-round foreign language classes to the general public, foreign students,
and professionals abroad. It has helped many students and professionals pass
their proficiency tests and advance their careers. Classes are scheduled on
Saturdays, after 5 p.m. and on week days. It also opens special schedules on
request. A small class is maintained to enable the teachers to attend to
individual students’ needs.
4.

The University
Testing Center was established on March 10, 2003 upon the approval of the Board
of Regents under ADCO Resolution NO. 14, S. 2003. The West Visayas State University Code under
Article 151, Section 2 states that the University shall provide a systematic
and continuing testing program. The University Testing Center is one of the
major student services programs committed to the welfare, growth, and
development of the students.
6.
Learning assessment center
The University
Learning Assessment Center (ULAC) is an academic support unit under the Office
of the Vice President for Academic Affairs that monitors student learning. The
Center operates system-wide including extension campus. At present, its major
program is on Terminal Competencies Assessment given to all graduating students
to determine their workplace readiness.
It maintains a database of the competencies assessment results over the
years. The Center should assist academic units in developing program learning
outcomes, selecting and developing appropriate assessment tools, analyzing and
reporting student learning data, and assuring that student learning data is
used in formulating institutional and academic decisions.
7.

The Office of
Instruction and Quality Assurance is dedicated to assisting the different
units/campuses in the offering of quality and innovative curricular programs in
anticipation of and responsive to the life-long learning needs of the students.
1.3. Teaching System
Teaching system in Integrated Laboratory School WVSU
uses English in delivering the lesson. English as their second language.
Therefore, mostly the student can understand what the teacher explained in
english.
1.4. Materials and Other Learning Resources
This elementary school has so many learning sources
such as books as their references, they have enough space for 50 more students
in the class including the teacher’s desk, they have 3 fans in the class,
speaker, microphone, LCD, black board, book shelfs, etc.
1.5. Measurement and Evaluation System
This elementary school has 4 times examinations in a
year. The other hand they also have quiz, evaluation, and assignment. The
teacher can get and accumulate their score from those excercises. Usually the
teacher gives it after explained the material everyday.
1.6. Curriculum
The education system in Philippines is using
curriculum K12 as their escort in the school. That is stated from the government of Department of Philippines
Education.
1.7. Teaching Plan
Based on the
observation, I used two kinds of lesson plan. Such as, semi detailed lesson
plan and detailed lesson plan. For the semi detailed lesson plan, we don’t need
to write all of the assumption or the detailed responses between teacher and
students. We need to write the general and also the sub material only.
Different with the detailed lesson plan, here we have to write all of the
detailed responses between teacher and students who will be expected.
Pedagogical
Content
1.1. Teaching Method
Teaching method
that they use is based on the topic of the lesson itself. For example I often
used disscussion group for making good cooperation between the one student to
other students. It is good for students who have the introvert characters
because the students must have interactions to each other. Then actually still
many more methods that i used to make the atmosphere will be good in the class
and also to increase the critical thinking of the students itself.
1.2. Learning
Material and Innovation
For the
material and innovation the teachers usually use cartolina, manila paper, and
also sometimes teachers use LCD, projector, and speaker to deliver their topic
of lessons.
1.3. Sources
of Learning and Technology
The teachers
use the references from the Departement of Education of Philippines. They will
teach by books that are given from the departement. For the technology, this
school has media such as LCD, speaker, laptop, and microphone.
1.4. Authentic
Assesment
The teacher can get and accumulate their score
from quiz, evaluation, and assignment. Usually the teacher gives it after
explained the material everyday.

Planning for Teaching
Before teaching, I have advisory teacher and buddies who can tell me about the structure
of the lesson plan. They told me about the semi detailed and detailed of lesson
plan. Usually, my advisory teacher, Ma’am Hazel Falcis revised my lesson plan
first before I taught the students.

Teaching in The Class
When I observed
in the grade fourth and grade sixth classes. I saw that mostly the students
were active in the class. The teacher should be able in handling the students
especially their noisy and spoiled character. I think it was still normal for
their ages in the elementary school. So, in this case teachers had to provide
many learning methods for students during in the class. Because teacher had to
combine the learning methods so that they weren’t bored with the lesson and
they can give their attention to the teacher and lesson itself.
When I taught the lesson, I had to remember the names
of students in grade fourth and grade sixth because it worked to make them felt
being appreciated. My advisory teacher gave me their names before i taught.
Eventhough i can’t remember for whole students in both of classes.
The teachers mostly make games that related with their topics for taking
the student’s attention and cooperation.
3.2.
Measurement and Evaluation
Based on the interviews with the teacher, which was known
that they had some kinds of examinations such as examination that be held every
quarter in the year and also National Achievement Test for grade sixth before
they pass their study to the higher level.
Teaching Practice
1.1.
Procedures of Teaching
Before teaching, we must make a
lesson plan first. Then give the lesson plan to the advisory teacher and
consult about that lesson plan. The advisory teacher can give you suggestions
and you have to revise if there’s an unsuitable in our lesson plan. Actually
there are many differences between Indonesia’s lesson plan and Philippine’s
lesson plan, especially for the format of lesson plan. In Indonesia we just
need to write the general or just the structure of the lesson plan, and we need
to see the syllabus to see the core competence and basic competence. Meanwhile,
in Philippine’s lesson plan format we dont need to write the core competence
and also the basic competence but we have to write more detailed explanations
about our planning in the lesson plan.
1.2.
Time Management and Organizing Activities
In the
elementary school mostly spent 1 hour to deliver the lesson everyday. We took 5-10
minutes for the opening. In the opening we have to give them the drill, review
for the previous topic and also give them the motivation. For the main
activity, we took 35-40 minutes because we have to input the application and
evaluation. For the closing we took 10-15 minutes while showing the short good
bye video then they submitted their quiz note books. Actually all of the timing
depends on the topic of lesson that will be given for the Students.
1.3.
Problem-solving
The big problem in grade 4 and grade 6 is the noisy. In
this case the teacher has to find the inovative and effective ways to make the
student want to hear and give the attention to the teacher. The student can
give their attention when the teacher gave them some games that they can feel
fun. Beside that, the student teachers usually give the conventional way as the
teaching media to deliver their material in the class, such as using many
cartolina papers or manila papers to show or explain the material and also
still use chalk and blackboard. Meanwhile in indonesia we usually use power
point then put the material and some visual videos there instantly. So, that’s
why for the first time I feel a little bit feel difficult to write my material
on the cartolina paper but when I had been there for 2 weeks I can write my
material well on the cartolina paper well enough and I usually combined the
teaching media with the powerpoint and also with cartolina paper.
1.4.
Evaluation
I think when I taught in West Visayas State University
Integrated Laboratory School I can get more knowledges, I can be more creative
and also innovative. Because actually eventhough mostly people in this era
especially in Indonesia use instant way as the teaching media actually It can
be better if we also be able and creative in using conventional media.
Summary and Suggestions
1.1.
Purposes of Practicum
The purpose of the practicum are to teach the Students
from different country, to share our knowledge, to know their culture and their
habits, to make our relationship between Indonesia and Philippines become
closer. The other is to combine and compare our education system between
Indonesia and Philippines, so that we can apply the education system each other.
1.2.
Procedures of Practicum
There are 4 weeks for teaching practice in WVSU Integrated Laboratory
School and they divided into 4 steps to teach the students there are
orientation, observation, teaching assistant, teaching individually ,
evaluation and reflection. There are some procedures of taching practice to the
Students in the Elementary School. before we started our teaching practice, we
should finish our lesson plan, then we consult to the teacher. After that the
advisory teacher revised our lesson plan, then I was allowed to teach in the classroom.
1.3.
Outcomes of Practicum
We know the differences of education system between Indonesia and Philippine.
we can learn many things from this project so
we can develop our education system in Indonesia. We can be more creative, we
can improve our English skill, and The Student teachers can integrate and
colaborate the education system between two country to be better education
system for the future.
1.4.
The Challenges of Practicum
I think the challenges are I have to handle 56 students
in each class and difficult to make them learned in the class without being
noisy, Then the format of the lesson plan itself is really different. So, I
have to learn it first, and the last is the teaching media which used the
conventional media.
1.5.
Overall Impression
I really amazed because people around me were really
friendly and really respect to each other. I also amazed because mostly people
in there able to speak English fluently.
1.6.
Suggestion for Future Improvement
For SEAMEO : Hopefully this program
can be continued, can be more challenging, and keep making good cooperation
between the ASEAN countries through this program. Then the more important thing
is hopefully this program can be financed by the SEAMEO for the whole accomodations
except individual needs.
For WVSU Integrated Laboratory
School : It will be better if the teacher can combine the conventional and also
the modern teaching media. Because if we just rely on the conventional way like
writing on the paper as the slides for explaning, It will spend a lot of money
and time. I think the good impact is the teacher can be creative and then can
keep teaching eventhough in electricity went out but it will be more complete if
the teacher can follow the modern era like using visual video, quiz using
website or more.
